How to Knit Cables

Friday October 2nd, 10:30 – 12:30

Class is one two-hour session, costs $15, and is limited to five people.

Cabled Hat

Friday October 23rd & 30th, 1 – 3PM

Class is two two-hour sessions and costs $15.

Saturday October 31st, November 14th & November 28th, 10:30 – 12:30

Our classic three-session sock-knitting class, the Sockalong helps you knit the sock you want to knit! Chloe will help you learn the methods you want to learn (such as magic loop, DPNs, two-at-a-time, toe up, cuff down, short row heels, afterthought heels) while explaining what each different method has to offer.

Students are required to bring their own sock yarn (approx. 100g/400m of fingering weight yarn is required to make a pair of adult socks) and corresponding needles. A plain sock recipe is provided, but students are free to bring a specific pattern if they have one they’d like to try!

Class is three two-hour sessions, costs $15, and is limited to six students.

Effie’s Finishing Class

Thursday November 5th, 1:30 – 3:30PM

Join our favourite knitting wizard Effie in her famous Finishing class – you’ll get tips and practice binding off, grafting, and seaming so that all of your projects can come off the needles as neat as you’d like them to!

Students will need; their own darning needle, 4 knitted squares at least 4″×4″ in stocking stitch in a light colour of worsted or DK weight, and knitting needles in the size that corresponds to their knitted squares.

Class is one two-hour session, costs $15, and is limited to five students.

Entrelac Knitting

Friday November 6th, 1 – 3PM

In the first session you will pick out your pattern and get started, in the second we will tackle any issues you encountered, finish up, and discuss blocking/starching.

DSCF0312Berroco Ultra Alpaca

50% Super Fine Alpaca, 50% Peruvian Wool/100g/215yds, 198m

A cold weather classic, we are very excited to have gotten Ultra Alpaca back in stock in neutral heather colours, perfect for those foolproof fall favourites.

50% Wool, 50% Premium Acrylic/100g/342 yds, 312m

A brand new yarn from King Cole, Panache is a beautifully heathered single ply in a DK weight that I can’t wait to give a try in a Sprig Cloche or some Nalu mitts.

100% Acrylic/100g/192yds, 160m

Last but not least, Borgo de Pazzi’s new yarn Royal is sure to be a hit with any knitter needing a last minute gift for the colourful people on their holiday list – with plenty of yardage in a chunky weight, one ball is plenty for a fun hat or fluffy cowl!

Stay tuned for our Fall knitting schedule~

Pre-Autumn Yarn Arrivals

I know I am not supposed to talk about the oncoming Autumn yet, officially, lest I harm your tender summer hearts – but there is a lot of holiday knitting ahead and knitting is always on topic!

A new shipment from Diamond this past week included…

Baby Alpaca Aran

50g/93m/100% Baby Alpaca

You will not believe how squishy these guys are. Well, actually, you will if you’ve squished its bulky cousin Baby Alpaca Sport before. I love the idea of using it to line a pair of colourful Scandes Mitts.

300g/600m, 656yds/78% Acrylic, 12% Mohair, 10% Polyester

These mega fluffballs come with a one-ball afghan pattern on the label – perfect for the beginner who wants a showstopper to knit while watching tv.

 Snuggly Spots

50g/165m, 179yds/55% Nylon, 45% Acrylic

So it looks like Sirdar is moving away from the speckles in their Snuggly DK line – which means a dedicated line of our speckly, spotty friends. Since its arrival, Kelly and I have been ALL ABOUT that green colourway. And 55% nylon means it is delightfully soft.

Harrap Tweed

50g/155m, 170yds/40% Nylon, 30% Wool, 24% Acrylic, 6% Viscose

That’s right – 40% nylon! Winter socks, anyone? Patterns like Purl Soho’s Men’s Socks for Giving and tincanknits Lumberjack,  or even just plain old plain socks– I’ll take a pair in each colour, please. Between the black/grey tweed and the brown tweed they have the “dad”/”father-in-law” gift on lock!

Pure Superkid Mohair

50g/207m/100% Superkid Mohair

Just LOOK at that shiny gems! Ugh! UGH! So shiny! Mohair is all about absorbing colour and shining it back into the world. A fingering weight warm enough to make up a cowl like Loggia or the one-skein Undersea Garden – and to line your yearly Fiddlehead mitts project! That’s right, I’d put it inside a mitten, because sometimes life is about those secret yarn treasures you keep for yourself.

Also in the order – 4 new colours in Crofter DK, perfect for those easy, plain projects that need a yarn to do all of the work.

If Crofter isn’t your style, there’s 3 new colours in the Pure Wool Superwash! Perfect for sweaters, mitts, scarves… for weather that I’m sure is a far, far way off.

Not to bury the lede, but on Saturday we got in some more of the locally dyed Penguin Soup yarns! We’re expecting some more by the end of this week, but they’re already disappearing fast – it doesn’t help that anyone who knits with it once comes back for more~

That’s all for now in terms of yarn deliveries, but stay tuned for our Fall class schedule in the next week or so! Not that it’s Fall yet. Nope, don’t worry. Still summer. Weeks and weeks of summer left, I’m sure.
