The May long weekend is definitely over, but don’t worry, I am here to console you with something near and dear to all of our hearts – alpacas!
look at that little face! look at it!
Alpaca fiber is amazingly soft, silky, light…irresistable! A couple of you might have already been so fortunate as to get a feel of the alpaca fiber we have from Blue Mountain Alpacas, located just south of Collingwood.
Currently available in natural colours, I thought it would be great to meet some of the faces behind the wonderful fluff!
Last but not least, although we don’t currently have any of her coat, I have been told this alpaca, fittingly named Chloe, is by far the best personality on the farm – remind you of anyone?
I can’t put my finger on it…but there’s something about her…
Gloating aside, we’re thrilled to have in something that has been much requested by spinners! Feel free to come and feel it up! For the rest of us non-spinning folk, we can always get our alpaca fill from the Illimani Royal I!

In other, possibly less cute news, our class schedule for June-July-August has been released!
Mixed in among the always popular Learn to Knit & Learn to Crochet are Kid’s versions, so that we can do our part in keeping your young’uns occupied over their summer break! At $35, the Kid Learn to Knit/Learn to Crochet are two-parters that include all the materials for making a scarf (the hook or needles + three balls of uptown worsted in the young person’s choice of colour)
Due to many requests, you’ll find Enterlac classes, a Double Knitting class, Market Bags, Colourwork Mitts, a lengthy Sweater Knitting class starting in August, and the long awaited return of Effie’s magnificent Finishing Class. I really can’t say enough about that last one- the topic of how to neatly finish off projects is always a hot one in store, and Effie is the BEST at it.
There is also the aSOCKalypse, a free sock drop-in on Friday afternoons in July and August, and the Lace KAL (which, fair warning, from here on out I will call the LACEALONG!), a free lace-focused drop-in on Saturday afternoons from the end of July through August.
(& Top Secret: A Blanket CAL (crochet-a-long) is hiding on Saturday afternoons in September – register early so you can start that project dreaming!)
You can find more information on specific classes & dates on our website, including a google calendar of all the dates for you to add to your own digital calendars!

Perhaps the coolest part of summer on the local yarn lover scene is the Lakeside Yarn Crawl!
Starting on Saturday, June 13th (World Wide Knit in Public Day – more info on our plans for that later!) and running until Labour Day in September, the Lakeside Yarn Crawl is a fab excuse to visit all around the Simcoe County/Georgian Bay area yarn shop scene – you get stamps on a passport, and entries into lovely, cozy draws for lovely, cozy prizes! More information on the prizes and specific events can be found in the future at the Lakeside Yarn Crawl blog, and of course we will be sharing our in-store crawl news on this page as the time draws closer!
That’s it for now, yarn lovers~
